Has Netflix renewed The Last Kingdom for a fifth season?
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed for a final season (Last Updated: 07/07/2020)
The Last Kingdom has officially been renewed for its fifth season on Netflix but with the caveat that it’ll be the show’s last. We’ll come onto this more during a second but anyone who knows the source material for The Last Kingdom will skills much content from the books won’t get to be covered.
The announcement of season 5 came on July 7th, 2020.
Alongside the season 5 announcement executive producer Nigel Marchant said:

Where is that the Last Kingdom season 5 in production and when will it release on Netflix?
According to The Last Kingdom star Alexander Dreymon, filming was scheduled to start in 2020. The cast and crew are going to be working under strict restrictions thanks to COVID-19.
Numerous production reports stated that production was thanks to start around November 2020 at Korda Studios in Hungary.

Fate continued to deny Uhtred from reclaiming his ancestral home of Bebbanburg after his failed attempt at securing the fort. Uhtred’s cousin, Whitgar, is now the lord of Bebbanburg after killing his own father during Uhtred’s attack, and within the process killed Father Beocca.

Whitgar has also made it clear that he won’t allow anyone who can claim to Bebbanburg to be left alive, which suggests he may follow Uhtred’s family to draw him out into the open.
