North Korea accused the United States on Sunday producing biological weapons in Ukraine, echoing Russian claims that were dismissed by the United Nations in March.
Ally Pyongyang Moscow in February said the US policy was “the root cause of the Ukraine crisis”, and this month officially recognized two pro-Russian separatist areas that proclaimed themselves in East Ukraine, encouraging Kyiv to decide on diplomatic relations with North Korea.
Washington “established many biological laboratories in dozens of countries and regions, including Ukraine, for ignoring international agreements”, the Korean official news agency (KCNA) said on Sunday, quoting what was said to have been “detected” by Russia.
Moscow in March accused Washington of conducting funding research into the development of biological weapons in Ukraine, which had invaded Russia almost five months ago.
Washington and Kyiv denied the existence of a laboratory intended to produce biological weapons in Ukraine, with the United States said the accusation was a sign that Moscow could use such tactics.
Izumi Nakamitsu, the great disarmament of the UN Secretary, also said that in March that the UN “did not know the existence of a biological weapons program in Ukraine”.
