Facebook on Friday said it deactivated the recommendation feature of the topic after thinking black men for “primates” in the video on social networks.
Facebook spokesman called it “clear error unacceptable” and said the recommendation software involves offline.
“We apologize to anyone who might have seen this offensive recommendation,” Facebook said in response to AFP’s investigation.
“We deactivated the entire feature of the topic recommendation as soon as we realized this was happening so we could investigate the cause and prevent it from happening again.”
Face recognition software was blown up by civil rights advocates that showed the problem with accuracy, especially he came to people who were not white.
Facebook users in the past few days have watched the English tabloid video showing black men showing the request produced automatically if they want to “continue to see the video about primates,” according to the New York Times.
The June 2020 video in question was posted by the Daily Mail, titled “White Man calls the police in a black man at the Marina.”
While humans are among many species in the primata family, the video has nothing to do with monkeys, chimpanzees or gorillas.
Screen Retrieval Recommendations are distributed on Twitter by former Facebook Content Design Manager Darci Groves.
“Prompt ‘keep seeing’ this is unacceptable,” Groves tweeted, directed a message on his former colleague on Facebook.
“It’s terrible.”
