Afghanistan-Taliban crisis Highlights: Taliban urge Afghan unity as protests spread to Kabul

The Taliban asked the Afghan priests to urge unity when they held their first Friday prayers since the Islamic group took control of the country, when protests against the takeover spread to more cities on Thursday, including the capital, Kabul.

Some people were killed when the Taliban guerrillas fired on a crowd in the eastern city of Asadabad, a witness said. Other witnesses reported shots near a general meeting in Kabul, but they seemed to be the Taliban shooting into the air.

On Thursday, the Taliban celebrated Afghan’s independence day, stating that he had defeated arrogant of World Power” in the United States. Afghan’s independence day commemorated the 1919 agreement which ended the British government in the Central Asian country, the Associated Press reported.
