A American citizen who was detained by the Taliban said he was wrongly accused of espionage but that his release could become a case study for US diplomacy with the Afghan government which was still not recognized.

Driving News: Safi Rauf, 27, whose Nubanya helps evacuate thousands of Afghans at risk during the Autumn Kabul – including interpreters who have helped President Biden – share new details in an interview with Axios.

Rauf was born in the Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan and came to the US as a teenager. He mobilized to Afghanistan for four years as a linguist and cultural advisor who was embedded with the military and continued to function as a naval reserve.

With its efforts to call the corrupt “intermediary” in the Afghan humanitarian assistance network, which exploits the despair of Afghan civilians to extract cash.

Rauf and his prisoners were allowed as a telephone call by a Taliban interrogator who had lobbied for their release but faced the opposition from other intelligence officers who were still worried about spy accusations.
